Why artificial polymers are so much more important than they used to be?

If it’s possible to have pacific answers for that and another one too and the anther one is where polymers exist in nature?

Why artificial polymers are so much more important than they used to be?
Artificial polymers (man-made plastics) tend to be versatile and relatively inexpensive. As a raw material, they tend to be very easy to shape. There are also inorganic polymers include silicones and polyphosphazenes, that have no natural materials that have similar properties.

Clothing made from rayon or nylon can take many more forms than those made from cotton or linen fibers.

Natural polymers include DNA, RNA, proteins (including enzymes), starches, cellulose, chitin, shellac and natural rubber.
