A lump is just that...a lump. It can be a tumor, but not necessarily. A cyst can cause a lump, but is technically not considered a tumor. A tumor is an abnormal growth of cells, which can be benign(not cancer) or malignant(cancer). A hernia can cause a lump, so can a blood clot, a bone spur, or cracking your noggin on a hard surface but none of those are considered a "tumor"
