Do you think Amish separatist religious communities are just anther form of racism in America?

Excuse me? Are you the racist when it comes to the Amish? The Amish are definitely not racist. They are a very kind and loving people. Look at the Amish school shootings. The parents of the murdered and wounded children went to the widow of the killer and offered her comfort and understanding. Racist never. You on the other hand......

You're not serious, right? As an Amish American, this question is offensive.
Reply:Actually, I have met an entire family of Amish at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital of Pittsburgh in the Intensive Care Unit, and they are extremely far from being racist. They are peaceful individuals who do not judge others and would do anything to help you out! They also have a wonderful sense of humor!

Truely amazing folks that I look up to -- not on religious terms, but in character terms.
Reply:first off, Amish communities do NOT discriminate on basis of race, they discriminate on basis of religious belief, therefore, they aren't racist.

second off, people don't think its weird when tribal animists separate themselves in tribes from the world, nor to people think it is weird that orthodox Jews don't often interact with those outside their faith. they are simply exercising their right to do so, and I hope that everyone respects that.

The Amish, or Mennonite, are one of the very few religious sects that simply want to be left alone, due almost entirely to their interpretations of certain scriptures in the Bible, but also because they think that we're weird too.

to end off, no, I don't. If they want to be left alone, then I don't see why we shouldn't honor that request. that and they make killer quilts. those things are awesome.
